In 2007 my wife and I moved our studios to a beautiful country church we bought, 120 kilometers north of Toronto.
I've played guitar since the age of twelve, and had always wanted to build them.
Well let's see....small shop in the country, too focused and picky? What to do?
And so Brand X was born... with a mission to craft the best handmade acoustic guitars

If I am going to spend the time to build an exceptional handmade acoustic guitar, and it takes a lot of time, then it makes sense to use the best materials. I use the best master grade tone woods from boutique suppliers all over the world. White spruce from the Italian Dolomite mountains, Blackwood from Africa, and highly figured Koa from naturally downed trees in Hawaii to name a few.
Other materials such as high strength, heat and humidity resistant epoxies, titanium, carbon fibre, and the best hand applied finishes are used wherever called for.
I use these carefully selected materials to construct handmade acoustic guitars that are visually stunning, extremely well constructed, and second to none in playability and sound quality.
These are not guitar shaped art objects, but rather highly playable, well crafted, precise machines that are a joy to play. I think these are the best handmade acoustic guitars around.

I love the precision of a well crafted instrument that feels good in the hand, light to hold and sounds brilliant. Well built handmade acoustic guitars are as much about pushing the limits of what wood can do as well as understanding the physics of sound.
The secret ingredient? Come and play one of my guitars and then see if you can tell.

Always, hand built, no pre-purchased parts, except when it comes to tuner heads, electronic components or possibly, maybe, once in a while, a rosette. I do all my own inlay.
Ah, OK, acoustic, arch top, ukuleles. Not electric, unless you're seriously looking for something really unique. I haven't built lutes, or cellos or violins, that's next level and as much as I am up for the challenge, I really like building guitars.
Guitars can be sized and tailored to the user. They are also sized to their function. A classical guitar is best suited for certain venues, where as a loud booming dreadnaught is good for someone who may be playing on stage or with a band. If you're petite, or tall, there are things I can do to make the instrument more suitable for you. Short answer: any size you want.
I believe the best woods available should be used for any instrument that I build. The amount of time required to build a guitar is way more costly than the cost of the materials. I have an inventory of tone woods and sound boards that my wife and I have put together over the past 15 years. We have access to master grade sound boards from the same mountain as Stradivari got his wood in the 17th century. Our collection also includes Blackwood from South Africa, as well as Sandalwood, Pink Ivory, Sinker Redwood, Alaska Sitka Spruce and Rosewood from around the world, to name a few. We have spent a lot of time sourcing unique woods in order to build the best instruments. Some of the boards we have are one of a kind and close to irreplicable due to their figuring and sound quality.
Send me a message, or call me to discuss your dream guitar. Use the contact form to tell me more about your ideal guitar, and I will contact you about instruments available or options for a truly custom build.
